Demanding a responsible rollout of AI

Two years ago, we locked in on AI. We weren't sure if it was all hype, but the potential threat to climate progress raised alarm bells. Soon we realized that even if AI became more useful, the AI rollout posed huge social risks, including broad threats to jobs, and our company’s support for deportation and for gas & oil development.
It’s not inevitable that AI is rolled out at warp speed without considering its impacts—across the country, people are rising up for real regulation and against data centers. Seattle has banned surveillance pricing in groceries and is now in a one-year policy-making period for regulating data centers. Amazon committed to dropping NDAs when building data centers. California passed strong labor laws to protect workers from surveillance by their bosses. And we’ve been on that journey! In 2025, over 1200 of our co-workers signed our open letter to Amazon leadership about our concerns with the AI rollout, not because we’re experts or have all the answers but because we were concerned, and now multiple members of Congress have reached out to us about our experiences on the job. Get ICE out of our work

Amazon Web Services recently earned 64 million dollars in contracts with ICE and CBP, but its own workers are living in fear. Many of us are immigrants, and many of us come from immigrant families. We worry about our safety and our loved ones' safety, and never want to see AI used for violence, surveillance, or mass deportation.
